Cross stitch fabrics
The fabric count decides how big your finished piece is. Choose a fabric to see its size chart and open the pattern maker with it preselected.
- 11-count AidaThe largest common Aida size: big, easy-to-see holes make it ideal for children, beginners and anyone who finds smaller counts hard on the eyes.
- 14-count AidaThe standard fabric for cross stitch and the size most patterns are designed for. A good balance between detail and stitching comfort.
- 16-count AidaA step finer than 14-count: designs come out about 12% smaller with noticeably smoother curves, while the holes are still easy to find.
- 18-count AidaA fine Aida for detailed work. Stitches are small and dense, so photo patterns look smooth — but you will want good light, and many stitchers use a magnifier.
- 28-count evenweaveEvenweave and linen have finer, even threads. Stitched "over two" threads, 28-count gives the same finished size as 14-count Aida with a softer, more traditional look.
