How the match works
Your color and every DMC floss are converted to CIE L*a*b* coordinates and compared by distance, known as ΔE (delta E). Below about 2.3 most people can't see a difference; under 5 is a very close match; above 10 the colors are clearly different. Because DMC doesn't publish official color values, floss colors are measured approximations — always check a real skein before buying.
