What is an audio trimmer?
An audio trimmer cuts a recording down to the part you want — removing a long intro, isolating a chorus for a ringtone, or tightening a voice memo. RingTrim shows the waveform so you can see quiet and loud passages, lets you select to 1/100 of a second, and saves the result in the format your phone or app needs.
Unlike most online audio cutters, RingTrim never uploads your file. Decoding uses your browser's Web Audio API; MP3 encoding uses the open-source LAME encoder running locally; M4A and M4R use the AAC encoder built into the browser. Large files open instantly, and private recordings stay private.
How to trim audio and make a ringtone
- Open your audio. Click Open file or drop an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC or video file onto the page. It is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
- Select the part to keep. Drag across the waveform, drag the handles, or type exact start and end times. Use Find loudest part or a length preset such as 30 s for ringtones.
- Add fades and set the volume. Set fade in and fade out lengths, then tick Normalize or adjust Volume. Press Play to preview exactly what will be exported.
- Download. Choose MP3, WAV, M4A or M4R, type a name and click Download.

Frequently asked questions
Is this audio trimmer really free?
Yes. There are no accounts, watermarks, file limits or paid tiers. The site is supported by ads.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Audio is decoded, edited and encoded in your browser with the Web Audio API, WebCodecs and a JavaScript MP3 encoder. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works on slow connections once the page has loaded.
Which formats can I open?
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus and FLAC, plus the audio track of MP4, MOV and WebM videos. Chrome and Edge support the widest range.
Which formats can I save?
MP3 (128–320 kbps), WAV (16-bit PCM) and, in browsers with a built-in AAC encoder (such as Chrome and Edge on Windows and macOS), M4A and M4R for iPhone ringtones.
How long can an iPhone ringtone be?
Up to 40 seconds for an M4R synced from a computer, and under 30 seconds for the iOS 26 Files → Share → Use as Ringtone method.
How precise is the trimming?
Selections are sample-accurate. Type times to 1/100 of a second, nudge the handles with the arrow keys (0.1 s, or 1 s with Shift), and zoom to the selection for fine adjustments.
Can I use any song as a ringtone?
You can use audio you own as a file or have the rights to. Streaming tracks from Apple Music or Spotify are DRM-protected and can’t be opened by any web tool.
