14mm f/2.8 depth of field
On a full-frame camera, a 14 mm lens at f/2.8 focused at 3 m (9.84 ft) is sharp from 1.32 m to infinity. Hyperfocal distance: 2.35 m (7.70 ft).
Advanced
Leave empty to use the standard value for the sensor. Halve it for pixel-level sharpness.
With a 14 mm lens at f/2.8 on full frame focused at 3.00 m, everything from 1.32 m to infinity is acceptably sharp — you are focused at or beyond the hyperfocal distance (2.35 m).

Ultra-wide astro and architecture
The classic combination for Milky Way photos with a foreground and for interiors. Even wide open, a 14 mm lens on full frame has a hyperfocal distance of only about 2.3 m, so focusing near that distance keeps everything from just over a metre to the stars acceptably sharp.
For pin-sharp stars, many astrophotographers focus at infinity instead and accept a slightly softer foreground, or shoot a second, focus-stacked frame for the ground.

FAQ
How much depth of field does a 14mm f/2.8 lens have?
On full frame, focused at 3 m, the sharp zone runs from 1.32 m to infinity. At 1 m it is 1.03 m. Depth of field grows roughly with the square of the distance.
What is the hyperfocal distance of a 14mm lens at f/2.8?
2.35 m (7.70 ft) on full frame (c = 0.030 mm) and 3.51 m (11.5 ft) on APS-C. Focus there and everything from half that distance to infinity is acceptably sharp.
Is depth of field different with 14mm f/2.8 on an APS-C camera?
With the same lens at the same distance, APS-C gives slightly less depth of field (18.8 m at 3 m) because of its smaller circle of confusion — but it frames like a 21 mm lens. To match the full-frame framing you would step back, which increases depth of field.
