Above-ground pool gallons calculator
Choose your pool from the list — 12 to 33 ft round or 12 × 24 to 21 × 41 ft oval, with a 48, 52 or 54 in wall — or type your own size. Water depth is set 6 in below the top of the wall, where most pools are filled.
Round above-ground pool gallons
gallons = 3.1416 × (diameter ÷ 2)² × water depth × 7.48, with diameter and depth in feet. For a 24 ft pool with a 52 in wall filled to 46 in: 3.1416 × 144 × 3.833 × 7.48 = 12,972 US gallons. Filled to 48 in it is 13,536 gallons — which is why published charts for "the same" pool disagree by several hundred gallons.
Oval above-ground pool gallons
Oval above-ground pools have straight sides and round ends, so the surface is a rectangle plus a circle: width × (length − width) + 3.1416 × (width ÷ 2)². A 15 × 30 ft oval with a 52 in wall holds 11,519 US gallons at 46 in. The common shortcut length × width × depth × 0.89 × 7.48 gives almost the same answer.

Questions
How many gallons are in a 24 ft round above-ground pool?
About 12,970 US gallons with a 52 in wall filled to 46 in, 11,840 with a 48 in wall and 13,540 with a 54 in wall. Filling right to the top of a 52 in wall would be about 14,700 gallons.
How full should an above-ground pool be?
Most manufacturers say to fill to the middle of the skimmer opening, which is usually about 6 in below the top rail. That is the water depth used here.
What is the difference between wall height and water depth?
Wall height (48, 52, 54 in) is the steel or resin wall. The water sits below the skimmer, so a 52 in wall usually holds 45–47 in of water. Always use water depth for volume.
