How these are calculated
Round: 3.1416 × (diameter ÷ 2)² × water depth × 7.48. Oval: the surface is a rectangle with half-circles at each end, width × (length − width) + 3.1416 × (width ÷ 2)², times depth × 7.48. Water depth is wall height minus 6 in: 42, 46 and 48 in for 48, 52 and 54 in walls.
Published charts differ by a few hundred gallons for the same pool because some assume the pool is filled higher or lower, and some round. Your own pool may also measure slightly over or under its nominal size. For an exact figure, measure and use the above-ground pool gallons calculator.
