Resin print cost calculator

Resin (MSLA / SLA) printers cure liquid photopolymer layer by layer with UV light, giving very fine detail for miniatures, jewellery and dental models. Drop an STL to see how much resin a print uses and what it costs.

What common prints cost in Resin

Estimated with solid parts, 15% for supports and waste on a resin msla, including electricity, machine wear and a 10% failure buffer:

Resin pricing is usually per bottle (500 g or 1 kg). Cured standard resin has a density of roughly 1.1–1.2 g/cm³; the calculator uses 1.15, so 1 ml of solid part is about 1.15 g. Resin parts are normally printed solid — set a hollow wall thickness (for example 2 mm) to see how much hollowing a large model saves, and remember to add drain holes.

Supports, rafts and resin left on the part and in the vat typically add 10–30% to the volume of the model itself, so the calculator starts with a 15% waste allowance for resin. Add the cost of isopropyl alcohol, gloves and the occasional FEP film to your machine-wear rate.

Print time on a resin printer depends on the height of the part, not its volume: every layer takes the same exposure and lift time whether the plate holds one miniature or twenty. The calculator estimates time from the number of 0.05 mm layers; filling the plate is the easiest way to cut the cost per part.

  • Tabletop miniatures and figurines
  • Jewellery masters and highly detailed models
  • Dental and engineering models with smooth surfaces

FAQ

What is the density of Resin?

About 1.15 g/cm³ for cured standard resin (liquid resin is slightly lighter), so 1 cm³ of solid Resin weighs 1.15 g. Exact values vary a little by brand and additives.

How many ml are in 1 kg of resin?

About 870 ml of cured part per kilogram at 1.15 g/cm³. Bottles are sold as 500 g or 1 kg; some brands list millilitres instead.

How much does Resin cost per gram?

At $30.00 per kg, Resin costs $0.03 per gram (typical range $22.00–$45.00 per kg). A 64 g print uses about $1.92 of material.
