Filament length calculator
Convert grams of filament to meters and meters to grams for any material and diameter, and find out how much is left on a partly used spool.
How much is left on my spool?
Empty spools usually weigh 150–250 g for plastic and around 100–200 g for cardboard; check the label or the manufacturer's website.
Length and weight by material

Meters per kilogram
| Material | g/cm³ | 1.75 mm | 2.85 mm | 1 g (1.75 mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLA | 1.24 | 335 m | 126 m | 33.5 cm |
| PETG | 1.27 | 327 m | 123 m | 32.7 cm |
| ABS | 1.04 | 400 m | 151 m | 40.0 cm |
| ASA | 1.07 | 389 m | 146 m | 38.9 cm |
| TPU | 1.21 | 344 m | 130 m | 34.4 cm |
| Nylon (PA) | 1.14 | 365 m | 138 m | 36.5 cm |
| Polycarbonate (PC) | 1.2 | 346 m | 131 m | 34.6 cm |
The formula
meters = grams ÷ density ÷ (π × (diameter ÷ 2)²), with density in g/cm³ and diameter in mm (the units work out because 1 cm³ = 1,000 mm³ and 1 m = 1,000 mm). A 1.75 mm filament has a cross-section of 2.405 mm²; 2.85 mm filament has 6.379 mm², which is why the same kilogram is about 2.65 times shorter.
