How to convert ASS to SRT

    1. Open the ASS file. Click Open subtitle file or drop your .ass file onto the tool. You can also paste the text.
    2. Choose SRT. “SubRip (.srt)” is preselected in the Save as menu.
    3. Fix anything else (optional). Shift or sync the timing, repair the encoding or clean up overlaps before saving.
    4. Download. Click Download to save the .srt file in UTF-8, or Copy to paste it elsewhere.

What changes when you convert ASS to SRT

ASS files mix dialogue with typesetting: positioned signs, karaoke, vector drawings and dozens of style overrides. The converter keeps the text of every Dialogue line, turns \N into real line breaks, converts italic, bold, underline and primary colors into SRT tags, and removes everything else inside { } braces.

Lines that draw shapes (\p1 drawing mode) contain no readable text and are skipped. Comment lines are ignored. Signs aligned to the top of the screen get an {\an8} tag so they do not cover the dialogue on players that support it.

Fansubs often show several lines at the same moment — dialogue plus a sign, for example. In SRT these become overlapping cues; most players stack them, but if your TV shows only one, run Fix → overlaps after converting.

    FAQ

Why do my ASS subtitles not work on my TV?

Most smart TVs and many devices only read SRT. Converting ASS to SRT keeps the dialogue and timing but drops fonts, positions and effects.

Can I convert SSA files too?

Yes. SSA (SubStation Alpha v4) is the older version of the format and is read the same way.

Are my subtitle and video files uploaded?

No. Files are opened and processed by JavaScript in your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased or private material stays private.
