About tapestry crochet graphs

Tapestry crochet works the picture in rows of single crochet, carrying the colors you are not using inside the stitches. Each square on the graph is one stitch, row 1 is the bottom row, and for a flat piece you turn at the end of every row — so odd rows are read right to left and even rows left to right (for right-handers).

Because every color is carried along the whole row, tapestry pieces work best with two to five colors. More colors make the fabric thick and stiff. Keep Remove confetti on so single-stitch specks, which are fiddly to work and barely visible, merge into their neighbors.

Single crochet stitches are slightly wider than they are tall, so the maker adds about 10% more rows than a square grid would. That keeps circles round in the finished fabric instead of squashed.

Tips

  • 2–5 colors for a flexible fabric
  • Use the row viewer to follow one row at a time
  • Worked in the round? Switch to "in the round" so every row reads the same way

How do I make a tapestry crochet graph?

Is it free? Do my pictures get uploaded?

It is free with no sign-up or watermark. Pictures are processed by your browser on your own device and never uploaded.

Can I choose my own yarn or bead colors?

Yes. Pick a built-in palette or choose Custom and set each color with a color picker. You can also click any swatch in the color list to replace that color with your own.

Can I make Perler or Hama bead patterns?

Yes. Switch to Fuse beads: the design is split into 29 × 29 pegboards with bead counts per color and per board, and each board prints on its own page. We are not affiliated with any bead brand.
