Word searches by age

Pick an age to get three printable puzzles with the right grid size, word length and directions for that age — 24 puzzles in all, each with an answer key and an online play mode.

How word search difficulty grows with age

Three settings change as children get older: the size of the grid, the length of the words and the directions words can run. We raise them one at a time so each step feels manageable — first longer words, then diagonals at 8, then backwards words at 10.

Every child is different: a strong reader may be ready a year early, and a child who finds reading hard may enjoy a younger page. Grade-level sets are in the printable library, and you can build your own in the word search maker.
