About WAV to MP3 conversion
For music, 320 kbps is effectively transparent and is the default here; 192 kbps is a good balance for everyday listening, and 128 kbps is fine for speech. Mono (tick Mono) halves the size again for voice recordings.
Large WAV files convert without an upload wait: a 10-minute recording encodes in a few seconds on a modern laptop. Sample rates other than the MP3 standards (for example 96 kHz) are converted to 44.1 kHz automatically.
FAQ
What bitrate should I use for WAV to MP3?
320 kbps for music you want to keep, 192 kbps for everyday listening, 96–128 kbps (mono) for speech.
Which MP3 encoder is used?
LAME via lamejs, an open-source (LGPL) JavaScript port. It is loaded only when you export an MP3.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Audio is decoded, edited and encoded in your browser with the Web Audio API, WebCodecs and a JavaScript MP3 encoder. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works on slow connections once the page has loaded.
Which formats can I open?
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus and FLAC, plus the audio track of MP4, MOV and WebM videos. Chrome and Edge support the widest range.
