How it works
There are two ways to get a custom ringtone onto an iPhone, and they have different length limits. On iOS 26 or later, save an M4A or MP3 that is under 30 seconds to the Files app, open it, tap Share and choose Use as Ringtone. On any iOS version you can also sync an M4R file of up to 40 seconds from a Mac (Finder) or a Windows PC (iTunes).
This page loads with settings for both: it automatically selects the loudest 29 seconds of your file (usually the chorus), adds a short fade in and a 1.5-second fade out, and normalizes the volume so the ringtone is as loud as the built-in ones without distorting. On an iPhone the format switches to M4A (or MP3 if Safari can’t encode AAC) — both work with the Files method.
Songs from Apple Music, Spotify or other streaming services are protected and can’t be opened by any ringtone maker. Use audio you own as a file: a purchased MP3, your own recording, a GarageBand export or a royalty-free track.

Step by step
- Open your audio. Click Open file or drop an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC or video file onto the page. It is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
- Select the part to keep. Drag across the waveform, drag the handles, or type exact start and end times. Use Find loudest part or a length preset such as 30 s for ringtones.
- Add fades and set the volume. Set fade in and fade out lengths, then tick Normalize or adjust Volume. Press Play to preview exactly what will be exported.
- Download. Choose MP3, WAV, M4A or M4R, type a name and click Download.
FAQ
How long can an iPhone ringtone be?
An M4R ringtone synced from a computer can be up to 40 seconds. The iOS 26 Files app method (Share → Use as Ringtone) requires a clip under 30 seconds. Text and alert tones are best kept under 5 seconds.
Can I make an iPhone ringtone without a computer?
Yes. On iOS 26 or later, make the ringtone here in Safari, choose M4A, save it to Files, then open it in Files, tap Share and choose Use as Ringtone. On older versions use GarageBand on the iPhone.
What is the difference between M4R and M4A?
None inside the file: both are AAC audio in an MPEG-4 container. The .m4r extension tells Finder and iTunes to put the file in your iPhone’s Tones instead of your music library.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Audio is decoded, edited and encoded in your browser with the Web Audio API, WebCodecs and a JavaScript MP3 encoder. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works on slow connections once the page has loaded.
Which formats can I open?
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus and FLAC, plus the audio track of MP4, MOV and WebM videos. Chrome and Edge support the widest range.
