MP3 cutter for Windows
Windows can play an MP3 but has no built-in way to cut one. Open this page in Edge or Chrome, drop the file in, and save a trimmed MP3, WAV or iPhone M4R in seconds — no installer.

How to cut an MP3 on Windows
- Open the file. Drag the MP3 from File Explorer onto the editor, or click Open file. Edge and Chrome support every format here, including M4R output.
- Mark the part to keep. Drag on the waveform or type times like 2:10.25. Press Space to play; Zoom to selection makes precise edges easy with a mouse.
- Choose format and quality. Keep MP3 at 192 kbps for everyday use, 320 kbps for high-quality sources, or WAV if you’ll edit it again.
- Download. Click Download. Press Ctrl+J to open the browser’s download list and Show in folder.
Where the file goes and how to check it
Edge and Chrome save to C:\Users\your name\Downloads unless you changed the download location in the browser’s settings. To confirm the cut, right-click the file in File Explorer → Properties → Details: you’ll see the length and bitrate. The title you typed in the File name box is written to the MP3’s ID3 tag, so it shows in media players.

Put a ringtone on an iPhone from Windows
- Export an M4R of 40 seconds or less.
- Install iTunes from the Microsoft Store, connect the iPhone and click the phone icon.
- Under On My Device, select Tones and drag the .m4r file into the list.
- On the iPhone pick it in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.
Apple’s newer Apple Devices app handles backups and music, but users report that tones dropped into it don’t reliably appear on the phone, so iTunes remains the dependable route. With iOS 26 you can avoid the PC entirely: upload an M4A under 30 seconds to iCloud Drive and use Use as Ringtone in the iPhone’s Files app. For Android phones, copy the MP3 to the phone’s Ringtones or Download folder over USB (choose File transfer on the phone) and pick it in Sound settings.
When to use a desktop editor instead
For multitrack mixing, noise reduction or batch processing hundreds of files, a desktop editor such as Audacity is the better tool. For a single cut, a fade or a ringtone, a browser tab is faster — and here nothing is uploaded, so it’s safe for private recordings.

FAQ
Does Windows 11 have a built-in MP3 cutter?
No. Media Player can play MP3s but can’t trim or save them. Use this page in Edge, which is already installed, or a desktop editor such as Audacity.
Can I make an iPhone ringtone on Windows?
Yes. Export an M4R of up to 40 seconds here in Edge or Chrome, then drag it into Tones in iTunes for Windows with your iPhone connected.
Why is M4R greyed out in Firefox?
Firefox doesn’t provide an AAC encoder to web pages. Open the page in Edge or Chrome to save M4A or M4R; MP3 and WAV work in every browser.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Audio is decoded, edited and encoded in your browser with the Web Audio API, WebCodecs and a JavaScript MP3 encoder. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works on slow connections once the page has loaded.
