Assumptions

  • Shelves fit between the sides: 24 − 2 × 3/4 = 22 1/2 inches.
  • Adjustable shelves are 1/8 inch shorter and 1/4 inch shallower for clearance.
  • Plain white melamine has no grain, so every part may rotate.
  • Exposed front edges get 0.5 mm iron-on edge banding, which does not change cut sizes.

Planning tips

The two 84-inch sides decide the layout: they use most of the length of a 4×8 sheet and leave an 11 7/8-inch strip at the end that only small parts can use. Because plain melamine has no grain, the optimizer is free to turn shelves, kick and cleats 90° to fill the gaps.

Build a second tower or a hanging section from the same sheets by increasing the quantities — a typical reach-in closet uses two towers with a hanging rod between them.

FAQ

How many sheets do I need for a closet organizer?

With a 1/8-inch kerf, the optimizer places all 12 parts on 2 sheets of 3/4 Melamine — 48.3% waste and 16 cuts. Change any size in the optimizer to recalculate.

Can I change the dimensions?

Yes. Edit any length, width or quantity in the parts list above and the layout updates instantly. Your changes are saved in your browser, and you can export the list as CSV or copy a link.

Does the cut list include the saw kerf?

The part sizes are finished sizes. The optimizer adds the kerf between parts when it lays them out, so you do not need to add it yourself.
