Assumptions

  • Case depth is 11 1/4 inches plus 3/4-inch doors.
  • Top and bottom fit between the sides: 30 − 1 1/2 = 28 1/2 inches.
  • Two adjustable shelves, 1/8 inch shorter than the inside width and set back from the doors.
  • Doors split the width with a 1/8-inch gap and 1/16-inch outside reveals.

Planning tips

Upper cabinets are shallow, so their parts nest very well: four 11 1/4-inch strips fit across a 48-inch sheet with kerf, and every side, top, bottom and shelf comes from those strips. That is why the optimizer's rip-first layouts work well for wall cabinets.

The hanging rail at the top of the back is what you screw through into the wall studs. Make it from 3/4-inch plywood, not the 1/4-inch back, and never hang a cabinet by the back panel alone.

FAQ

How many sheets do I need for a wall cabinet?

With a 1/8-inch kerf, the optimizer places all 10 parts on 1 sheet of 3/4 Plywood and 1 sheet of 1/4 Plywood — 59.6% waste and 15 cuts. Change any size in the optimizer to recalculate.

Can I change the dimensions?

Yes. Edit any length, width or quantity in the parts list above and the layout updates instantly. Your changes are saved in your browser, and you can export the list as CSV or copy a link.

Does the cut list include the saw kerf?

The part sizes are finished sizes. The optimizer adds the kerf between parts when it lays them out, so you do not need to add it yourself.
