4×10 sheet cut list optimizer
A 4×10 sheet is 48 × 120 inches (40 square feet). Lumber yards and sheet-goods suppliers carry it in MDF, melamine, some hardwood plywood and siding — often as a special order — and it lets you cut parts longer than 8 feet without a joint.

You need: 1 × 4x10 sheet (120″ × 48″)
Cut sequence (15 cuts)
- Crosscut 22 1/2″ from the 120″ × 48″ piece
- Rip 30″ from the 22 1/2″ × 48″ piece
- Rip 11 1/4″ from the 22 1/2″ × 17 7/8″ piece
- Rip 3″ from the 22 1/2″ × 6 1/2″ piece
- Rip 3″ from the 22 1/2″ × 3 3/8″ piece
- Rip 11 1/4″ from the 97 3/8″ × 48″ piece
- Crosscut 30″ from the 97 3/8″ × 11 1/4″ piece
- Crosscut 30″ from the 67 1/4″ × 11 1/4″ piece
- Crosscut 22 1/2″ from the 37 1/8″ × 11 1/4″ piece
- Crosscut 24″ from the 97 3/8″ × 36 5/8″ piece
- Rip 12″ from the 24″ × 36 5/8″ piece
- Rip 11 1/4″ from the 24″ × 24 1/2″ piece
- Crosscut 22 1/2″ from the 24″ × 11 1/4″ piece
- Rip 11 1/4″ from the 24″ × 13 1/8″ piece
- Crosscut 22 1/2″ from the 24″ × 11 1/4″ piece
Every cut goes straight through the piece. Distances are measured from the top or left edge of the piece as drawn; the kerf is on the waste side of each line.
Reusable offcuts (2)
- 73 1/4″ × 36 5/8″
- 14 1/2″ × 11 1/4″

The extra two feet of length matter most for tall wardrobes and pantry cabinets, long countertops and window seats, stair stringers and boat panels. Parts longer than 96 inches cannot come from a standard sheet at all, so the optimizer will only place them on 4×10 stock — add a 4×8 row as well and it will decide which size wastes less.
A 4×10 sheet is 25% heavier and harder to handle than a 4×8, and it will not fit in many vans or pickup beds with the tailgate closed. Plan the first long rips so the yard can cut the sheet into manageable strips before you take it home.
Because waste is spread over a bigger panel, mixing long parts with short ones is the key to good yield. The parts-per-sheet table below shows how common cabinet and shelf parts nest on a 4×10 compared with the 4×8 page.

How many parts fit on one sheet?
Calculated with the optimizer for a single sheet, 1/8″ kerf and straight through-cuts. "Grain locked" keeps the part length along the sheet length; "rotation allowed" applies to MDF, melamine and hidden parts.
| Part | Size | Grain locked | Rotation allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base cabinet side | 34 1/2″ × 23 1/4″ | 6 | 6 |
| Wall cabinet side | 30″ × 11 1/4″ | 12 | 14 |
| Bookcase shelf | 34 1/2″ × 11 1/4″ | 12 | 13 |
| Cabinet door | 30″ × 15″ | 9 | 10 |
| Drawer side | 22″ × 6″ | 35 | 38 |
| 24 × 24 panel | 24″ × 24″ | 4 | 4 |
| 12 × 12 square | 12″ × 12″ | 27 | 27 |
Typical uses
- Wardrobes and pantry cabinets taller than 8 ft

48 × 120 inches (1219 × 3048 mm), an area of 40 sq ft (3.72 m²).
How many 12″ strips can I rip from a 4x10 sheet?
3 full-length strips with a 1/8″ kerf. The last strip needs no cut, and the leftover is 11 3/4″.
How many base cabinet side fit on one 4x10 sheet?
6 with the grain locked, or 6 if the parts may rotate (34 1/2″ × 23 1/4″ parts, 1/8″ kerf, straight through-cuts).
Which way does the grain run on a 4x10 sheet?
On veneered plywood the face grain normally runs along the 120″ length.
