Pixel art on Java Edition

The .schem export follows the public Sponge Schematic v2 format. With WorldEdit, put the file in config/worldedit/schematics (or plugins/WorldEdit/schematics on a server), then run //schem load name and //paste. Pixel art is exported as a vertical wall facing south; map art as a floor with the noobline on its north side.

Survival players often use a schematic mod that shows a ghost of the build to place blocks against. Recent versions of popular schematic mods can load Sponge .schem files; if yours can’t, use the PNG grid and the row guide — they contain the same information.

F3 shows your coordinates on Java, which makes the coordinate grid in this tool easy to follow: mark the bottom-left block of your wall, then count x to the right and y upwards.

For map art on Java, staircase mode unlocks three shades per color (dark, normal, light). The height for every block is in the row guide and in the schematic, so you don’t have to work it out yourself.

How to make Minecraft pixel art from an image

  1. Add your image. Click Upload image, drag a file onto the preview, or paste with Ctrl/⌘+V. PNG transparency becomes air.
  2. Pick blocks and size. Choose wool, concrete, terracotta, all full blocks or map art, then a width in blocks (or a number of maps).
  3. Check the material list. See every block with its count in stacks and shulker boxes. Click a block to exclude it and re-match the image.
  4. Build row by row. Use the row guide and the grid with coordinates, or export a PNG, a CSV list or a .schem file for WorldEdit.

FAQ

Does it work for Bedrock Edition?

Yes. The palettes, block counts and row guide are the same on Bedrock and Java. The .schem schematic export is for Java mods such as WorldEdit; Bedrock players build from the grid PNG and row guide.

How many blocks do I need?

One block per pixel: width × height. A 64 × 64 build needs 4,096 blocks — 64 stacks, or about 2.4 shulker boxes. The material list shows the exact count for every block, split into shulker boxes, stacks and leftover blocks.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Your image never leaves your device, and there is no account or watermark.
